Tracer Origin Story

Tracer Origin Story is an Animated short that was shown during Blizzcon 2014's Overwatch Unveiled panel. It was never posted to the official PlayOverwatch Youtube channel.

Video Transcript

Transcript [Open on Tracer's icon beside the words 'Tracer Origin Story'."] [Fade to the Overwatch logo on a blue background.] Tracer: Overwatch was looking for a hotshot pilot to test their next generation teleporting fighter. [Fade to a younger Tracer standing proudly in front of a fighter plane.] Tracer: The Slipstream. Enter Lena Oxton, call sign: Tracer. Haha, that's me. It's the sort of opportunity I've dreamed off my whole life. [Cut to a distressed looking Tracer as she is looking at her hand. In the foreground a device similar to Tracer's own chronal accelerator can be seen as a part of the fighter.] Tracer: But on my first flight, the teleportation matrix malfunctioned and I disappeared. I was missing for months. [The image of Tracer flickers and disappears from the previously mentioned image, leaving an empty pilot seat.] Tracer: And no-one knew where — or when — I'd gone. [Fade to white.] [Fade to a rounded room with electrical wiring all over; seemingly a containment chamber. A blue image of Tracer is seen in the foreground staring at her hands.] Tracer: By the time Overwatch found me I was little more than a ghost. [Tracer flickers out of the image and appears laying down on the left of the room, legs up on a bench, staring up.] Tracer: The doctors call my condition 'chronal disassociation'. [She flickers again and appears at the window on the right, hand seemingly pressed against it. Before flickering again and reappearing sitting on the ledge of the middle window.] Tracer: I faded in and out of existence. Disappearing for hours and days at a time. [This time she flickers and appears on the foreground on the left side, trying to touch a tube coming down from the ceiling. However, her fingers seem to pass through it.] Tracer: And even when I was there, I couldn't touch anything. [Cut to Winston working on Tracer's chronal accelerator.] Tracer: But my friend Winston would not give up. He kept at it, day and night. Until he invented the chronal harness that keeps me anchored to the present. I was myself again! Even better, [Fade to Lena Oxton as Tracer in her new Overwatch uniform.] Tracer: It turned my condition into something great! I have control over my own time, and I can speed it up and slow it down at will. My career as a pilot was over, [Cut to Tracer, with her hands on her hips, standing proudly before the Overwatch logo.] Tracer: but my life as an Overwatch agent had begun. [Distant beeping can be heard.] Tracer: Sounds like someone needs me. But don't worry! We'll have plenty of time for stories later. Haha, cheers!
