Suddendeath

Sudden Death occurs when certain Competitive Play matches are tied. On a standard attack-vs-defense map, a coin toss will determine which team does what. The Sudden Death will be played as a single, abbreviated round: if the attackers are able to capture the objective, they win; otherwise, the defenders will win.

Starting with Season 2, Sudden Death was removed from standard Competitive Play. If both teams cannot fill the capture bar at least 33% during their attacking round, the game will simply end as a draw. In a draw result, every player will receive  5, and any players completing their placement matches will receive a yellow "draw" marker on their record.

Sudden Death was still seen after it's removal from Competitive Play in Competitive CTF, which resolved stalemates by placing both capture zones much closer to the center of the map and requiring only a single capture to determine victory.

Prior to being phased out, Sudden Death would have the following requirements for the attacker side:

  •  July 6, 2016 Patch: The duration of Sudden Death has been adjusted across all maps from 1m45s to the following values, Hanamura: 1m35s, Temple of Anubis: 1m30s, Volskaya Industries: 1m35s, Dorado: 1m30s, Route 66: 1m35s, Watchpoint: Gibraltar: 1m35s, King's Row: 1m30s, Numbani: 1m50s.
