The Shambali is a monastery located in the Himalayas.
History[]
Years ago, following the Omnic Crisis, a group of outcast omnic robots experienced what they described as a spiritual awakening. They abandoned their pre-programmed lives to establish a communal monastery deep in the Himalayas. After many years of meditation on the nature of existence, they came to the belief that they were more than just artificial intelligence and that, like humans, they possessed the essence of a soul. They also believe in the existence of an entity known as the Iris, which gives them hope for a society where humans and omnics can exist in harmony. They believe that all beings can ascend through the Iris and can be transformed into a higher state of being. [1]
Recognizing the spiritual equality they held with humans, the monks, led by the enigmatic robot known as Tekhartha Mondatta, sought to heal the wounds caused by the Omnic Crisis a generation earlier and bring humans and robots back into societal harmony. Their message was embraced by millions around the world, and they became global celebrities.
At some point, Zenyatta chose to leave the monastery and discard the belief for what the monks dreamed of.
Tekhartha Mondatta later came to King's Row to deliver a speech, and was assassinated by a Talon agent named Widowmaker.
