Torbjörn creates pools of molten slag that deal massive, sustained damage (plus bonus damage to armor), and can prevent enemies from moving through key locations.

Details

Torbjörn stows his Rivet Gun and enters a state where using the primary fire button will cause him to fire a globule from his claw arm that will bounce off walls and ceilings until it hits the ground. Once the globule hits the ground, it will create a pool of molten slag that will damage any enemies on top it for 160 damage per second, or 190 damage per second if the enemy is armored, and will persist for 10 seconds upon landing. Torbjörn can fire up to 10 of the globules within the ability's 6-second duration.

Despite being a channeled ultimate ability, Molten Core cannot be interrupted by crowd control. Using Overload prior to the ability will not cause globules to shoot faster. Additonally, Torbjörn will not gain ultimate charge from damage caused by the slag pools.

A Torbjörn player-controlled or hostile Torbjörn will shout "Molten Core!", while an allied Torbjörn will say "Setting out the welcome mat!"

Trivia

The Molten Core icon prior to October 9, 2018

• The ability had a different icon before its rework.
  • Unlike the other ultimate abilities that were reworked into standard abilities, Molten Core's name was transferred to the new ultimate ability.
• Before the rework, a friendly Torbjörn would say nothing and grunt upon Molten Core's activation.
• When equipped with the Santaclad skin, he will announce "Merry molten core!"

Patch changes

December 11, 2018 Patch: Damage increased from 130 to 160 per second.  October 9, 2018 Patch: Ability reworked; Switches weapon from Rivet Gun to his claw arm; Fires up to 10 molten globules that create damage pools where they land for 10 seconds.  December 13, 2016 Patch: Fixed a bug preventing the sound effects from Torbjörn’s hammer from being played when his Ultimate ability was activated.  February 9, 2016 (beta) Patch: No longer fills Scrap meter; No longer makes abilities cost 0 Scrap; Can now be activated while moving; Now automatically upgrades level 2 turrets to level 3 turrets while Molten Core is running (turrets will revert back to level 2 once Molten Core ends)
